Why primers and sealers matter in Kenya

Most premature paint failures we see are not “bad topcoat” stories — they are prep stories. Dusty blocks, alkaline new plaster, patched skim, tannin-rich timber and previously glossy doors all need the right primer, sealer or undercoat before colour goes on. Match the primer to the substrate

Metal and previously enamelled doors often need a sound undercoat so the new gloss does not crawl or chip. If damp is active, solve moisture first — a decorative primer is not a magic waterproofing membrane. Think of primers as insurance priced per litre. A cheap topcoat over a weak base still fails; a mid-range emulsion over a correct sealer often outlasts a premium tin slapped on dust.
